PURPOSE:To readily obtain the titled compounds in good yield and short time, by reacting furfurals with an allyl halide in a solvent, such as water, in the presence of a specific organic quaternary ammonium, inorganic ammonium and zinc while successively adding the allyl halide. CONSTITUTION:Furfurals expressed by formula I (R is H or CH3) are reacted with an allyl halide in the presence of at least one organic quaternary ammo nium selected from tetraethylammonium bromide and chloride, tetrapropylammonium bromide and chloride, tetrabutylammonium bromide, chloride and iodide, benzyltriethylammonium chloride benzyltripropylammonium chloride, dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide, etc., an inorganic ammonium, such as ammonium chloride, and zinc in water or a mixed solvent of water- organic solvent while successively adding the allyl halide to afford the aimed compounds, expressed by formula II and useful as an intermediate for agricul tural chemicals, medicines, perfumes, etc. |
