PURPOSE:To improve the operability of a display system by displaying desired pictures of respective modes while various modes are selected, and displaying an updated picture when a new mode is set after a display picture is updated. CONSTITUTION:A mode switching means A selects an automatic operation mode, a tape operation mode, an editing mode, a manual mode, etc., through an operator. A specified picture number selecting means B selects and outputs the number of a picture displayed for each switched mode automatically. A picture number switching command means C is operated when a display picture is updated and provided normally on a keyboard. When the update of the picture is commanded, a picture update judging means D judges whether or not the number of the picture is new and outputs an update command when correct to switch the contents of the specified picture number selecting means B to a new display image, so that the updated picture is displayed automatically. Consequently, the operability is improved.
