PURPOSE:To automatically load cylindrical pipes in a ship hold by providing a pair of rails which can be extended and retracted longitudinally by means of a drive source attached to the front section of a frame. CONSTITUTION:Pinions are driven to extend rails 18, 19 up to a position just before a position where large diameter cylindrical steel pipes are located. In this condition, the rails 18, 19 are alone extended while carrier vehicles 20, 21 are held as they are. Thereafter, hydraulic cylinders 33, 34 are driven to drive pusher devices 14, 15 so that the large diameter steel pipes 30 are advanced toward slope sections 39, 40, and allowed to abut against latching pawls 45, 45 so as to be stopped. Then motors 43, 44 are driven to rotate rollers 41, 42 so that the large diameter steel pipes thereon are laterally shifted to a predetermined position. Then, a cylinder 47a is retracted to longitudinally rotate the latch pawls 45, 46 so that the large diameter steel pipes 30 thereon are allowed to roll downward, resulting in that the pipes 30 are loaded on the carrier vehicles 20, 21. Thereafter, the carrier vehicles 20, 21 are advanced along the rails 18, 19.
