PURPOSE:To readily obtain the titled compound in high yield using an ordinary reaction apparatus without requiring use of a high-quality corrosion-resistant material, by reacting inexpensive acetone with an alcohol used as raw materials in the presence of a specific catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Acetone and an alcohol are used as raw materials and reacted in the presence of a catalyst containing at least one selected from transition elements (except Ti) or group IIa, IIIb or IVb elements of the periodic table, preferably in the vapor phase at a temperature within the range of 250-500 deg.C, preferably 300-450 deg.C to afford the aimed compound. Furthermore, Cr, Mn, Fe, Cu, W, Mg, etc., in the above-mentioned catalyst are especially preferred and used in the form of a precipitated or supported catalyst. The afore- mentioned reaction is carried out by heating vapors of the raw materials and a carrier gas in the presence of the solid catalyst. Nitrogen is used as the carrier gas; however, an oxygen-containing gas in preferably used. |
