PURPOSE:To enable a high printing position accuracy to be maintained even with some play between a hammer and bearings holding the hammer, by a method wherein a means allowing slide at right angles to a projecting direction is provided on at least one abutting surface between a type element and the hammer. CONSTITUTION:A coating layer of Teflon, molybdenum disulfide, or the like having a low frictional coefficient is formed on an abutting part of a hammer top part 1a against a type element 2. The coating layer 1b reduces a frictional force to a large extent, thus resulting in the longitudinal rigidity of the type element 2 larger than the frictional force and the occurrence of slide between the type element 2 and the hammer top part 1a. Therefore, the type element 2 depends only on the crosswise motion of the hammer top part 1a and reaches a platen at a proper printing position 2 independently of the motion of the hammer top part 1a. In this manner, a printing position accuracy can be maintained high.
