A bed guard 10 comprises a panel 12 which is supported beside a bed in use by projection means 18. The or each projection means 18 is arranged to fit between the mattress and the bed base, and has adjustable retaining means 23, 24 which engages either with an edge of the mattress or with an edge of the bed base to prevent slippage.
