PURPOSE:To obtain a PTC(Positive Temperature Coefficient) element, which is low in surface temperature in trip state and formed small in diameter, by allowing material with a PTC characteristic to have composition which is formed by dispersing conductive particles into a polymer and to contain direct chain type low density polyethylene as at least one of polymers. CONSTITUTION:A PTC element 1 is composed of at least two metallic electrodes 3 and a material 2 electrically connected with their electrode planes to show a PTC characteristic. This material 2 with the PTC characteristic has a composi tion, which is formed by dispersing conductive particles into a polymer, and contains direct chain type low density polyethylene of 4 or less in its melt index preferably as at least one of polymers. Hence a surface temperature of the element on a trip state can be suppressed low and bad effects can be prevented from being exerted on other elements, resin materials, and the like around the PTC element. Further, since its rated current is large, the element can be formed small dimensionally. |
