PURPOSE:To improve machining accuracy and extend the life of a guide by arranging in the outside vicinity of a guide a pair of sub-guides capable of pressing a wire electrode in the direction perpendicular to the running direction of the wire and of moving on a closed locus surrounding the wire electrode. CONSTITUTION:Guide devices 2, 3 arranged as an over-under pair have guides 4, 5 having through holes with a wire electrode 6 stretched and held in between. Arranging sub-guides 11, 12 in the upper and lower vicinity of the guides 4, 5, the wire electrode 6 is made to be pressed in the direction perpendicular to its running direction. That is, it is constituted such that the axes of the sub-guides 11, 12 are made to be capable of orbiting or of rotating with an eccentricity, for example, around the axes of the guides 4, 5. As a result, the internal surfaces of the through holes in the guides 4, 5 wear uniformly if the sub-guides 11, 12 are moved on a closed locus surrounding the wire electrode 6 in a plane intersecting the wire electrode at right angles.
