PURPOSE:To unify and minimize an entire device by executing the recording and reproducing of picture information by using a common scanning system and providing only one scanning means, such as a deflecting unit and a subscanning means, so as to be used in common for reading and reproducing. CONSTITUTION:A titled device provides the deflecting unit 4 which deflects a light beam 2 so as to execute main scanning on an accumulating phosphor sheet 7 where the radiograph of an object is accumulated and recorded or a recording sheet 11 where the radiograph is reproduced, the subscanning means 6 which relatively moves the accumulating phosphor sheet 7 or the recording sheet 11 and the light beam 2 in a direction nearly perpendicular to a main scanning direction and a beam diameter adjusting means 12 for altering the beam diameter of the light beam 2 on the accumulating phosphor sheet 7 and on the recording sheet 11. Both reading of the picture information from the accumulating phosphor sheet 7 and reproducing of the picture information in the recording sheet 11 can be executed by using one scanning system. Thus, the entire system can be simplified and minimized.
