摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a recording medium which has excellent wear resistance in the magnetic film itself and has excellent perpendicular magnetic recording characteristics by forming a thin alloy film contg. Co, Cr, W and C and having an oxidized layer on the surface as a constituting element. CONSTITUTION:The thin alloy film contg. Co, Cr, W and C as essential components and having the oxidized layer on the surface is used as the constituting element. The Co and Cr of the Co-Cr alloy phase are oxidized by oxidizing the surface of the Co-Cr-W-C film, by which the oxide layer of these metals is formed on the film surface and the wear resistance of the film is improved. Anodic oxidation, oxygen plasma treatment, etc., are used as means for forming the oxided film. The reliability is higher as the thickness of the oxidized film is larger, but if the thickness is too large, the output of a reproduced signal weakens and trouble such as increase of noise arises and, therefore, the thickness thereof is determined by taking the characteristics of the perpendicularly magnetized recording film and head into consideration. The perpendicular magnetic recording medium having the excellent wear resistance and corrosion resistance and eventually the excellent maintenance of the magnetic recording characteristics is obtd.
