PURPOSE:To shorten the work period for construction, to reduce construction cost as well as to improve the efficiency and safety of a maintenance operation after completion by forming a cask cleaning pit in a position lower than an operating floor and integrally providing a depot for the head of a pressure vessel to the upper part thereof. CONSTITUTION:The cask cleaning pit 10 is formed in the position lower than the operating floor 2 in the building of a nuclear reactor and further, the depot 22 for the head of the nuclear reactor pressure vessel is integrally provided in the upper part of the pit 10. Alternately, the depot 22 for the head of the nuclear reactor pressure vessel is provided in the position lower than the operating floor 2 and the upper part thereof is constituted flush with the floor 2. The installation at the time of construction is thereby facilitated and speeded up; in addition, the part to be occupied by the depot for the head of the nuclear reactor pressure vessel in the building is eliminated and the area thereof is incorporated into the working area. The effective area of the operating floor is thus widened.
