The unit according to the invention combines, in a single compact structure, a receptacle 1 for rapid mixing of the coagulating agents, a flocculator 2 and, on each side of the latter, a lamellar settler 3, 4 in an arrangement making possible a direct and constant-speed flow of the treated water from the flocculation opening to the settling zone. For example, the lights or openings 7 in the flocculator 2 raft are situated at the same level as the lights 8 for feeding the lamellar settlers 3, 4. Application to the treatment of industrial aqueous effluents or of water which is to be made fit to drink. <IMAGE>
