PURPOSE:To reproduce a vivid image free from blurring by varying the filter parameter of a low-pass filter in accordance with the state of noise included in read image data of a color film. CONSTITUTION:Before the negative/positive inversion processing is executed, the discrimination processing is executed to discriminate the exposure state at every frame image of a color negative film, and the correction processing is executed to variably correct the color granularity of digital color image data corresponding to each frame picture based on the exposure state of the frame picture obtained by said discrimination processing. Thus, the granularity is corrected most suitably by the low-pass parameter corresponding to the density of the color negative film, and only noise in color negative film image data is eliminated to generate a vivid color image free from blurring.
