937,274. Servicing reactors. EUROPEAN ATOMIC ENERGY COMMUNITY, EURATOM. Feb. 8, 1962 [April 14, 1961], No. 4923/62. Class 39 (4). [Also in Group XXX] A device for loading fuel or sample-bearing elements into an experimetal reactor 1 having a number of tubular inclined channels comprises a hollow rod 2 supported at its lower end 7 by a cable 6 passing round a pulley 14 secured within the rod. The cable passes through slots 13 in the rod, one end of the cable being secured to a carriage 3 mounted on a travelling gantry 5 and the other end being secured to the drum 9a of a winch 9 mounted on the carriage. Adjustable guides 8 on the carriage freely support the upper end of the. rod so that its inclination may be varied to suit the channel to be loaded. The lower end of the rod 2 also carries two gripper fingers 20 pivoted at 21 and actuated by a rod 18 having arms 25 carrying pins 24, these pins operating in inclined finger slots 23. The rod 18 is connected to a double-acting piston 17 operated by compressed air supplied to cylinder 15 through pipes 16, these pipes leading to a compressed air tank 10 having gripper control means disposed at the top end of the rod 2. In use, the carriage 3 is brought to the desired position and the guides 8 adjusted as mentioned above, the rod 2 then being lowered by the winch 9 and the fingers 20 operated to engage or disengage an element 12 in the selected inclined channel. |
