PURPOSE:To eliminate the increase of the time of filter movement by setting the home position of a color sensing means into the state selected by the mode reading an image signal not through a filter. CONSTITUTION:A solenoid SL is turned on only when a red filter 55 is desired to be operated, and turned off in other normal cases and the filter is not operative. A picture signal without any filter is used to detect the size of an original. Thus, no color recognition is required and when the copy mode requiring the original size detection is selected next, it is not required to move the filter and the succeeding operation is introduced smoothly. Thus, the increase in the copying time due to the movement of filter is eliminated.
