PURPOSE:To obtain a high contrast by providing at least one layer of optical anisotropic body provided wit at least one layer of color filter, between polarizing plates. CONSTITUTION:The upper side A layer 37 is set to DELTAnXd of about 0.6mum, an angle made by he upper side polarizing plate 36 an optical axis of the A layer 37 is set to about 50 deg., an angle made by direction of the optical axis of the A layer 37 and the rubbing direction of an inside electrode substrate 33 of a liquid crystal cell (B cell) 38 for executing a display by applying a voltage is set to about 90 deg., a twist angle of a liquid crystal 34 of the B cell is st to the left twist of about 200 deg., an angle made by the rubbing direction of the lower side electrode substrate 35 and the direction of an absorption axis of the lower side polarizing plate 40 is set to about 50 deg., DELTAnXd of the liquid crystal 34 of the B cell 38 is set to 0.9mum, and a color filter 42 is provided on the surface of the B cell 38 side of the upper side A layer 37. In such a way, a high contrast can be obtained. |
