PURPOSE:To efficiently perform image processing like expansion or reduction by providing a function which reads an area designated with a device from a picture original and expands or reduces this area in an arbitrary ratio. CONSTITUTION:In case an image B which is twice as large as a blank part A is read into the blank part A on a screen, a window where all of data of the image B read from a scanner device 1 will be displayed is set. When read-in of the image B is instructed and the device is instructed to reduce the read image B to a half and to display and synthesize this image B on the blank part A, the image B is displayed and synthesized on the blank part A of the screen. When a data read-in area is designated by the scanner device 1 and the device is instructed to display and synthesize it on the blank part A, the designated area is expanded or reduced to coincide with the blank part A, and data is sent to the side of a device body 3 and is displayed.
