PURPOSE:To enable the high density recording and reproducing by disposing divisionally slider pads to press a discoid magnetic recording medium in one direction either of its radial direction or circumferential direction or to press the discoid magnetic recording medium in both directions of its radial direction and circumferential direction. CONSTITUTION:The slider pads 18 and 19 are disposed at a prescribed space against the magnetic head tips 16 and 17 respectively to press the floppy disk 13 in both directions of its radial direction and circumferential direction. Consequently, an oscillation of the floppy disk 13 in the vicinity of the magnetic head tips 16 and 17 is suppressed so as to bring the magnetic head tips 16 and 17 into contact with the floppy disk 13 stably and closely. By this method, the high density magnetic recording and reproducing are feasible.
