PURPOSE:To enable a slackening of a recording medium generated around a platen roller to be removed, by a method wherein the peripheral speed of discharge rollers is determined to be lower than that of the platen roller and the recording medium is fed reverse from a discharge side to a supply side, or by a method wherein the peripheral speed of the discharge rollers is determined to be higher than that of the platen roller and the recording medium is fed forward from the supply side to the discharge side. CONSTITUTION:A recording paper 24 is fed reverse due to the reverse rotation of a platen roller 1. With the recording paper 24 still being fed continuously reverse, the peripheral speed of a pair of discharge rollers 10, 9 lower than that of the platen roller 1 causes the slackening of the recording paper 24 around the platen roller 1 to be removed. Next, when the recording paper 24 is supplied, a head 4 presses the platen roller 1 through an ink film 4, and the leading end of the recording paper 24 is carried to the engagement between the pair of discharge rollers 10, 9 due to the rotation of the platen roller 1. In this state, the head 4 is retracted, and the recording paper is fed in the condition that the peripheral speed of a pair of discharge rollers 10, 9 is higher than that of the platen roller 1. In this manner, the slackening of the recording paper 24 around the platen roller 1 present in the section pressed by two bail rollers is eliminated.
