A method for conditioning solid, radioactively contaminated, fermentable or putrescible wastes is described in which fermentation or putrefaction is prevented reliably under all conceivable boundary conditions. This is done by adding microbicidal substances to the wastes before compacting them, in particular water-soluble inorganic salts.
