A platform (10) for loading a vehicle, e.g. with palletised loads but in the arrangement shown facilitates the loading of a stretcher, comprises a base (14) pivotally mounted at (16) to a vehicle body (12). The base (14) is further attached to the vehicle body (12) by two rams (18, 20). A tray (28) has guide rails (38) and is slidable upon the base (14). The platform (10) has a locking mechanism operated by a lever (34). The tray has a further locking mechanism operated by a bar (30) to retain the tray (28) with respect to the base (14). During loading, when the front end of the stretcher engages the bar (30) the further locking mechanism is released and a hook (36) is engaged with a bar on the stretcher. The tray and stretcher are then moved along the base fully into the vehicle, the stretcher is lowered to the vehicle floor by the rams (18, 20) and lever (34) is operated to lock the platform to the vehicle body. <IMAGE> |
