PURPOSE:To easily produce composite spherical powder having nitride surface layer and good heat resistance and corrosion resistance by charging powder of metal, etc., into Ar-N2 or Ar-NH3 plasma of DC arc plasma/high frequency plasma complex type. CONSTITUTION:The Ar and N2 or NH3 gases are supplied to a DC arc gun 1 and a water cooled quartz tube 2 winding a water cooled pipe 3 for generating high frequency and the DC arc plasma/high frequency plasma complex type Ar-N2 or Ar-NH3 plasma is generated. Powder of metal, oxide, boride or carbide is charged in the plasma from the powder supplying device 5 through Ar gas. The above powder is effectively spheroidized by surely melting in the plasma having stable and good controllability. This spherical drip is reacted with N2 or NH2 in a reacting vessel 4. By this method, the composite spherical powder coated its surface with the nitride layer and composed of any material among the metal, oxide, boride and carbide, is obtd.
