PURPOSE:To make a valve lift extensively alterable by rotating an eccentric rocker shaft via a control piston with the rotation of a valve lift controlling cam, and thereby moving a contact point between a rocker arm and a valve opening cam. CONSTITUTION:When engine speed is reached to more than the specified value, a valve controlling cam 10 is rotated up to the maximum lifting state. And, both first and second pistons 11 and 12 become closed to each other via a sprig 13 and a disc spring 14, pressing a rocker shaft 2. Consequently, a rocker arm 1 is rocked in a regular state by a cam crest 3a of a valve opening cam 3 on the circumference of the rocker shaft 2. Accordingly, an intake valve 4 is kept in the maximum lift. On the other hand, when the cam 10 is not rotated, these pistons 11 and 12 are separated, and a slipper 7 of the rocker arm 1 is stopped at a tangential position of the cam crest 3a, thus the intake valve 4 comes to a stopped state.
