<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a reinforcing fiber yarn prepreg, not only the external appearance but also the mechanical strength of which are excellent and which is used by winding helically, by a method wherein a twisted filament bundle is impregnated with thermosetting resin composition. CONSTITUTION:The alumina fiber yarn prepreg concerned is produced by impregnating a filament bundle of alumina fiber, the diameter of the filament of which is 5-20 mum and to the filament of which 5-150 turns of twist per meter is given, with 5-50 wt% of thermosetting resin composition. If the diameter of the filament is more than 20 mum, the obtained prepreg is hard and fluffs develop on it, resulting in impairing its external appearance and physical properties. If the diameter of the filament is less than 5 mum, the strength of the obtained prepreg is low. If the turns of twist per meter is less than 5, the lowering of physical properties such as tensile strength and the like results. If the turns of twist per meter exceeds 150, the adherence between the wound prepreg and the ground becomes poor. If the content of the thermosetting resin composition is less than or equal to 5 wt%, no satisfactory function as matrix can be obtained. If the content of the thermosetting resin composition is more than or equal to 50 wt%, the workability of the prepreg is deteriorated. Since the employed alumina fiber has high mechanical strength and elasticity and excellent compressive strength, its reinforcing effect is also large.</p> |
