PURPOSE:To improve smoke concentration, HC, CO concentration and torque characteristic by providing a medium speed area between a low-speed area provided at the front stage with respect to a turning angle of a cam and a high-speed area provided at the rear stage, in a cam device of a fuel injection pump. CONSTITUTION:A pressurizing mechanism 6 comprises a cylinder 7 and a plunger 8. A cam device 18 gives reciprocating displacement to the plunger 8. Pressurized fuel is discharged from a force feed passage 12 through a delivery valve device 25. The cam device 18 has a cam characteristic divided into a low speed area at the front stage portion with respect to a turning angle of a cam, a medium-speed area at the middle stage portion and a high-speed area at the rear stage portion. Thus, smoke concentration, HC, CO concentration and torque characteristic at the time of medium speed can be improved.
