PURPOSE:To add specified tape tension to a magnetic tape and to stably obtain a good still picture at the time of the reproduction mode of the still picture by utilizing the rotation transfer torque of a friction clutch mechanism as the braking torque of a feeding reel base. CONSTITUTION:In the case of transfer from a recording/reproducing mode to a still mode, an electromagnetic solenoid 47 is first turned OFF. As a result, a brake arm 40 receives the rotary force in a counter clockwise direction from a tension spring 44 and fits to the gear 48 of a feeding reel base 2 to check the rotation of the gear 48. The rotation transfer torque set by the friction clutch mechanism provided between the gear 48 and feeding reel base 2 thus becomes of a braking torque inside the feeding reel base 2, which is braked. The specified tape tension can be added to the tape tension at the recording/ reproducing mode time and yet the tension thereof can be stably held, hence a good still picture can stably be obtd.
