PURPOSE:To realize the highly accurate consecutive recording by securing such a constitution where a rotary magnetic head for special reproduction scans a locus preceding in the track width direction the recording track which is scanned by a rotary magnetic head for recording and normal reproduction. CONSTITUTION:A rotary magnetic head for special reproduction scans the recording track preceding in the track width the recording track which is scanned by a rotary magnetic head for recording and normal reproduction. A reproduced signal processing circuit 13 is provided to extracts the reproduced signals from said rotary magnetic head for special reproduction together with a reproduced signal presence/absence deciding circuit 25 which decides the presence or absence of the output of reproduction, and a system control circuit 26 which starts again a recording action with a recording track following the one where the output of reproduction of the magnetic head for special reproduction is not available yet. When the recording action is restarted, the means 26 starts the recording action at and after the recording track following said one via the magnetic head for special reproduction. Thus it is possible to avoid a double writing action and the generation of unrecorded parts.
