PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic film of a low-noise magnetic recording medium suitable for high-density recording by specifying the zinc weight ratio of a cobalt-zinc alloy film and the zinc weight ratio of a cobalt-nickel-zinc alloy film. CONSTITUTION:The zinc weight ratio of the cobalt-zinc alloy film is 0.05-15% or the zinc weight ratio of the cobalt-nickel-zinc alloy film is 0.05-15% and the cobalt weight ratio is >=50%. The preferable weight ratio of the zinc is 0.5-5%. An influence on the improvement of noise if weak when the weight ratio is 0.5-5% or below and the weight ratio above 15% is liable to cause the considerable degradation of the magnetic characteristics (coercive force, residual magnetic flux density, squareness ratio, etc.) as the magnetic cobalt alloy film. This magnetic film is formed by a plating method or sputtering method. The noise is thereby improved by >=-5dB in S/N.
