An electronic switching device for switching electrical loads can be switched on by key operation and/or by sensors and can be switched off by key operation or by timing elements. So that the switching device can be used in a variety of ways and, in particular, can be adapted to changing user requirements, the switching device is equipped with a number of timing elements (21, 22, 23, 24, 61) and a number of hold circuits (31, 32) which can be combined with one another in different ways in each case via adjustable programming links (81 to 85) so that the switching characteristics can be adapted to the respective user requirements in a variety of ways. <IMAGE>
