PURPOSE:To shorten the duration time in the case of lock up on and off by providing orifices which connect arbitrary numbers of oil chambers among oil chambers except the one situated in the most inner periphery side to the inside of a torque converter on a piston. CONSTITUTION:Pressure oil supplied to an oil chamber 55 is feeded to an oil chamber 53 through a microclearance 56 as time elapses for increasing oil and when pressure of oil in the oil chamber 53 is increased by centrifugal force, a piston 15 abuts to a drive plate 83. On this occasion, as orifices 50 are provided on outer periphery part of the piston 15, the oil in the inside of a torque converter 1 flows into the oil chamber 53 through the orifices 50, so time required in becoming to the state in(C) from the state in (B) is shortened. And the pressure of oil in the oil chamber 53 due to centrifugal force is increased further, for increasing pressing load of the piston 15 gradually. Orifices 50 are blockaded by the drive plate 83 on this occasion. As coupling in lock up begins and transmission of torque finishes in such wise, there is no shock in coupling.
