摘要 PURPOSE:To enhance wear resistance and to decrease coefft. of friction to traveling system members by incorporating a specific compd. into a magnetic layer provided on a nonmagnetic or forming a layer contg. said compd. on the magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:The N-acylglutamate compd. expressed by the formula (R<1> is straight chain or branched alkyl or alkenyl of 5-21C; R<2> is straight chain or branched alkyl or alkenyl of 1-22C; n is 0-100) is incorporated into the magnetic layer which is provided on the nonmagnetic base and consists of ferromagnetic powder and binder or the layer incorporated with the above- mentioned compd. is disposed on the magnetic layer. The above-mentioned compd.-contg. layer is formed on a thin ferromagnetic metallic film in the case of a thin metallic film type magnetic recording medium. The magnetic recording medium formed by using such compd. in or on the magnetic layer is enhanced in the wear resistance in sliding with members such as magnetic heads and guide poles and is decreased in the coefft. of friction to the traveling system members. The running durability of both the coating type and thin metallic film type magnetic recording medium is thus enhanced.
