PURPOSE:To execute an efficient jumping access by providing plural types of the jumping method and selecting an optimum method at the time of the jumping. CONSTITUTION:A recording and reproducing means 102 to execute the recording and reproducing to a recording medium 101, and a jumping access means 105 to position the recording and reproducing means 102 to the desired track position by plural types of jumping are provided, and while the jumping access means 105 uses plural types of jumping appropriately, the recording and reproducing means 102 is moved to a desired track position. Namely, when many tracks are jumped, the mode, in which the number of tracks which can be jumped to one chance is many, may be selected, and when the tracks are close to the purpose track, the mode of the jumping is used appropriately and the access to the purpose track can be executed at a minimum time. Thus, an efficient jumping control can be executed.
