PURPOSE:To suppress a positioning error and to prevent a data destruction at the time of writing by executing a moving positioning at high speed with a positioning-only magnetic head output at the time of moving the magnetic head and reading the data and grouping the magnetic head and executing the positioning control with a group unit at the time of writing the data. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic heads H1-H13 and HS are divided into 3 groups, the HS is a positioning-only magnetic head, and at the time of the moving of the magnetic head and the reading of data, the position of all heads is controlled by the positioning information signal read from a positioning-only head HS, a high speed moving and positioning are executed and at this time, even when the positioning error is larger, the data are assured by re-reading, etc. At the time of writing the data, by the positioning information or the group correcting positioning information in which H6-H8 are read from HS and further, H9-H13 are read from H11, the group positioning is corrected. Thus, in any magnetic head, the data suppressed small to the positioning error and written in an adjoining cylinder are not destructed.
