PURPOSE:To obtain the title adhesive composition having excellent heat stability, weatherability, etc., by using as its essential constituent an aromatic petroleum resin comprising a polymer wherein aromatic rings are bound to one another through a methylene group and which contains neither double bond nor oxygen atom. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic compound, such as toluene or ethylbenzene, or a fraction composed mainly of aromatic compounds is reacted with formalde hyde in the presence of an acid catalyst to produce an aromatic petroleum resin comprising a polymer wherein aromatic rings are bound to one another through a methylene group and which contains (essentially) neither double bond nor oxygen atom. This aromatic petroleum resin is then mixed with a base polymer (e.g., an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer or an ethylene/acrylate copoly mer) and, in addition, a filler, a plasticizer, a pigment, etc., according to uses, thereby giving an objective hot-melt adhesive composition.
