PURPOSE:To secure the synchronism between a host and a terminal with all commands by setting selectively a synchronous mode and an asynchronous mode for a request command so that the terminal informs the executing result of the request command to the host even with a request command in a synchronous mode. CONSTITUTION:The commands outputted to a terminal from a host 11 are divided into the answer commands which inform the executing result of the terminal 12 to the host 11 and the commands which require no information on the executing result of the terminal 12. Then both synchronous and asynchronous modes can be selectively set for the request commands. A synchronous mode is set when an application program is developed so that the terminal 12 informs the executing results of the request commands (normal end/abnormal end) to the host 11 even with a request command. Thus the application program is developed with high efficiency. While an asynchronous mode is set when the application program is actually run and the information on the processing result is not required as original.
