PURPOSE:To eliminate the thermal distortion of glass bulbs and prevent the occurrence of cracks by coating a metal connecting member connecting the bulbs to each other with synthetic resin or ceramic. CONSTITUTION:The outer surface of a connecting member 10 hermetically connecting U-shaped bulbs 8, 9 is coated with a coating member 20 made of synthetic resin or ceramic. The member 20 is formed integrally with a partition board 4 made of ceramic and supporting electrodes 13a, 13b. When a lamp is turned off, the heat radiation of the member 10 is restricted, the cooling speed is slowed down, the difference of the cooling speed between the glass bulbs 8, 9 and the connecting member 10 is decreased, the thermal distortion due to the difference of the thermal expansion coefficient is decreased, and the occurrence of cracks is prevented.
