<p>A process and device for selection or input of the destination in motor vehicle navigation systems uses the name of the destination. The selection of the name of a destination from a list of destinations on the input of the name of the destination is effected by introducing the name of the destination letter by letter. With a first component of a manual input element, the letters of the name of the destination are selected in succession. With a second component of a manual input element, the alphabet is gone through letter by letter at selectively variable rate or increment until the required letter is reached. By taking into account the probability of occurrence of individual letters and groups of letters as well as the composition of the list of destinations, the number of letters to be gone through to determine each letter of the name of the destination can be reduced. Acknowledgement of the selected letters or figures is effected by a visual display and in particular acoustically by an oral output.</p> |
