In a heating system having a heat source, the heat output of which is subjected to large fluctuations in operation, a plurality of temperature control valves, each of which is assigned its own individual heat accumulator, are arranged located one behind the other in the forced circuit of the heat-transfer medium flowing through the heat source. As soon as the temperature of the heat-transfer medium arriving at a temperature control valve lies above that of the assigned individual accumulator, the heat is supplied to the latter. If this is not the case, then the heat is passed on to the following temperature control valve or back to the heat source again. A hierarchical temperature graduation is thus established in the individual accumulators, the heat-transfer medium flowing back to the heat source in each case has the lowest temperature occurring in the accumulator apparatus and, in the event of a drop in temperature of the heat-transfer medium leaving the heat source, the accumulator content is, despite absorption of heat, not cooled down by intermixing. The temperature control valves are preferably designed as mechanical reversing valves or heat pipes. The heat source is preferably a solar collector.
