PURPOSE:To clear the content of a received data buffer memory while holding various set operation modes, by providing the received data buffer memory, the control part thereof and the switch inputting a signal erasing the stored content of the memory to the control part. CONSTITUTION:A printer is connected to an external apparatus by an interface circuit 1 and received data is taken in the printer by CPU 2 to be accumulated in a receiving data buffer memory 3 by the control of CPU 2. CPU 2 successively takes out the printing data accumulated in the receiving data buffer memory and controls a printing hammer driver 8 and a motor driver 9 on the basis of the taken out data to perform printing and paper feed. When the contact of a buffer memory clear switch 7 is closed in an on-line mode, a CPU 2 performs control clearing the content of the buffer memory 3 to erase the same. Therefore, the content of the receiving buffer memory is cleared while various operation mode set values of the printer are held and printing can be quickly stopped.
