PURPOSE:To house a hardness meter compact into a body, by forming a plurality of weights for load varied in size each with a U-shaped cross-section while they are held as laid one upon another in such a manner that smaller weights are fitted inside larger ones sequentially. CONSTITUTION:A micro hardness meter 1 comprises a base 5 with a lift handle 3 for lifting a sample base 2 and a measuring section 9 supported with a column 7 erected on the base 5. A stage 10 is mounted on the sample base 2 so as to move longitudinally and horizontally with micrometer heads 8 and 8' and a sample is mounted on the stage 10. The measuring section 9 is provided with a load device and an optical device. The load device has a plurality of weights 15 (15a, 15b...) varied in size. The weights 15 are each formed into a cylinder open at the bottom thereof and a vent hole is drilled into a core and laid one upon another in such a manner that smaller weights are fitted inside larger ones sequentially.
