PURPOSE:To obtain an analysis value coinciding with a volatile component in substance as determined by a JIS method, by setting a temperature boosting rate properly by a heat balance method according to [O/C] of a sample coal. CONSTITUTION:Atomic number ratio [O/C] of oxygen and carbon is determined in a sample coal. This value is substituted into a formula of [HR: deg.C/ min]=-a[O/C]+b [wherein (a) and (b) are positive real number experimentally determined] to determine a temperature boosting rate [HR: deg.C/min]. According to the temperature boosting rate thus obtained, the temperature of the sample coal is raised while a volatile component in the sample coal is measured based on reduction of heating. The volatile component thus obtained in the process gives an analysis value almost approximating a volatile component obtained by a method established by JIS standard.
