PURPOSE:To facilitate working when a test load is altered, by providing a load adjuster which hoists weights in linkage with a load adjuster adapted to lift an indenter from a sample surface to halt a loading function of the weights temporarily upon the end of a loading. CONSTITUTION:A micro hardness meter 1 consists of a base 5 provided with a lift handle 3 for moving up and down a sample base 2 and a measuring section 9 supported with a column 7 erected on the base. A stage 10 adapted to move longitudinally and horizontally with micrometer heads 8 and 8' is mounted on the sample base 2. The measuring section 9 is provided with a load device A and an optical device B. The load device A is provided with a load switch for a load applied on an indenter 30 to bring the load of the indenter to a desired value. Thereafter, with the release of a load adder/remover C and a load hoister D, a load of weights 15... is transmitted to a point of applying a force of an indenter holder 29 through a hollow shaft 20 and a load transmission shaft 25 to force the indenter 30 into the sample surface.
