PURPOSE:To manufacture a lightweight, rust-resisting, sharp, and long-life cutting tool made of Ti alloy, by subjecting a part to be the edge of a plate for forming a cutting tool made of beta-type Ti alloy with a specific composition to cold working and heat treatment under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:A Ti alloy containing, by weight, 8-25% V, 0.5-5% Al, <1.0% Cr, <1.0% Fe, and <1.0% Mn or further containing 0.01-1.0% rare earth elements and <=5%, in total, of one more elements among Cd, S, Se, Te, Pb, and Bi is refined, and a beta-type Ti alloy plate prepared by subjecting the above to casting, rolling, and solution heat treatment is cut off into the prescribed shape, and, at least the part to be an edge is cold-worked at >=20% draft and then heated at 400-550 deg.C for <=2hr and cooled slowly to undergo ageing treatment. Finally, the edge part is put on so as to form the cutting tool made of Ti alloy having about HRC49 edge hardness can be manufactured.
