PURPOSE:To prevent unreasonable straining force from being produced in a drive system, by providing such an arrangement that the rotational speed of an internal combustion engine is lowered so as to prevent a large straining force from being produced in the drive system when an accelerator member is manipulated in the speed retarding direction. CONSTITUTION:An engine control unit 22 carries out engine speed control in accordance with manipulation of an accelerator pedal during start in response to a second control signal Ue, and therefore clutch engaging operation for start and engine rotational speed control for smoothly engaging the clutch are carried out. If the accelerator pedal 14 is manipulated at a manipulating speed faster than a predetermined value in the speed retarding direction, output data Db obtained by the subtracting operation of a desired speed subtracter section 39 is delivered so that no abrupt drop in the engine rotational speed occurs. Thereafter, when a friction clutch 5 is disengaged, it is possible to prevent an unreasonable straining force from being exerted to the drive system of the vehicle. |
