PURPOSE:To rapidly transfer from determinating operation to input operation and to improve operatability by providing the titled device with a means for detecting a document control code, a means for deciding the moving destination of a cursor and a means for automatically moving the cursor. CONSTITUTION:When an input is supplied from a keyboard (KB) in the editing work of a character string, an interruption signal is sent to a CPU, the CPU reads out various document control codes stored in a ROM and executes various controls based on these control signals. Processing for determining homophones arranged before a cursor position at the time of depressing a determination key SS formed on the KB is executed through a pointer CP, a document buffer TBUF, a flag register SFLG, and so on. After the determining operation, a position to be supposed as the succeeding input position is decided through a pointer NXT, a cursor register CR, a CRT controller CRT, etc., and the cursor is automatically moved. Consequently, operator's operation can be omitted, the operatability can be improved and a rapid input can be attained.
