PURPOSE:To improve riding comfort and steerability against fluctuation of the height of pavement and side wind by measuring damper stroke positions of respective wheels and discriminating between rolling, pitching and bouncing above a spring and vibration below the spring. CONSTITUTION:Damper stroke positions at four wheel sections are detected through a damper stroke sensor 2 and inputted to a microcomputor 3. The microcomputor 3 discriminates between rolling, pitching and bouncing above a spring and vibration below the spring. Then selection of optimal suspending condition and computation of switching time of suspending condition are carried out based on the result of discrimination. Thereafter, suspending condition switching signals 12, 13 are outputted to a damper 4 and an air spring 5 at predetermined time so as to control characteristics of respective suspensions. By such arrangement, riding comfort and steerability against fluctuation of the height of pavement and side wind can be improved.
