PURPOSE:To enable the detection of a state of contact with a high S/N, by detecting the acceleration of a head slider and an acoustic radiation wave produced by the contact with a magnetic disk medium, based on each of low-frequency and high-frequency regions of an induced output signal generated by a piezoelectric transducer of the head slider. CONSTITUTION:The low-frequency region of an output of a piezoelectric transducer 1 mounted on a floating head slider is separated therefrom by LPF 15 and a low-frequency region voltage signal A is taken out with an excellent S/N. Meanwhile, the output of the transducer 1 mixed with a local oscillation frequency 11 by a mixer 10 is supplied to narrow-band BPF 13, and a prescribed high-frequency region signal of a high S/N is taken out thereby and processed by an envelope detector 5, a comparator 6, etc. By this method, a state of contact, including the number times of contact, based on the voltage A generated from the low-frequency region signal and corresponding to an acceleration caused by the slider with a magnetic disk medium and on an acoustic radiation wave generated from the high-frequency region are detected with a high S/N.
