PURPOSE:To accurately warn a user that a part of a KANJI (Chinese character) code string overflows a prescribed number of digits, by preventing display of all of the KANJI code string ending with a postpositive code if this postpositive code overflows the boundary of the prescribed number of digits of a row by data insertion. CONSTITUTION:When row data is edited by insertion, deletion, or the like and data is displayed out to update the display on a display device 5, an editing processing part 3 checks whether the KANJI code string of data in this row partially overflows or not after a required preprocessing, and the processing part 3 performs the control to display out data in an effective part 6 of a buffer as conventional if it does not partially overflow. If it partially overflows, the whole of the KANJI code string is completely shifted to a digit overflow part 7 to make the effective part 6 empty. Consequently, all KANJIs of the KANJI string are not displayed at all. Thus, the KANJI code to be eliminated as an invalid code is erased from the display at the time of terminating diting to warn the user that it is deleted.
