A continuous furnace for the heat treatment of small articles of metal in an inert or reactant gas atmos. is fitted with an endless conveyor belt, esp. of the wire link or wire mesh type, with a drive outside the retort. The belt is supported inside the retort by a tray carrying parallel free-running rollers which can be extracted at one end from the retort.
