A digital X-ray display has an X-ray tube, a high voltage generator, a display amplifier, an optical attenuator, a television camera, an image processor and a television monitor. The appts. further includes a video signal reference, a video signal comparator, a transmission regulator and a reproduction regulator. The x-ray tube output is passed through an object and is amplified. The strength of the transmission is controlled by the optical attenuator that is controlled by an input from the reproduction regulator. The generated video signal is received by the image processor and a signal level is obtained for comparasion with a set reference.
